TEAM: Stuart Guthrie and Graeme McGuire
MENTOR: Andrew Stead
A2B uses mobile cloud computing and handset technologies to make ride sharing trustworthy and convenient for people in areas where traffic congestion is an issue. Spin off benefits are: a short ROI for members (payback within 200km of travel); lighter traffic loads; reduced carbon and other pollutants; and fewer road infrastructure projects.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA)
TEAM: R. Randhawa, G. Wang, R. Chedid and W. Davies.
MENTOR: R. Middendorp and C. Smith
The CBA team developed an integrated strategy to reward loyalty in the local business banking sector and increase customer satisfaction. This should increase revenue through customer retention and additional cross-selling opportunities.
Electronic Lock Systems
TEAM: Jonathan Ladmore, David Abberton and Craig Burke
MENTOR: Andrew Stead
Electronic Lock Systems (ELS) will design, install and maintain locking and access control systems using an electronic locking device that is more cost effective and convenient than conventional mechanical locks. ELS will target retail outlets that want to securely display high value products (e.g. jewellery or electronic devices) or high social risk products (e.g. spray paint cans) to customers.
Enough Is Enough – Investing in the Future
TEAM: Ken and Lynette Marslew, Julie Wade and Jane Randall
MENTOR: Chris Smith
This team investigated establishing a recycling plant to recover reusable raw materials to produce plastics. The proceeds will be used to support a job preparedness program for the long-term unemployed and for rehabilitation of ex-prisoners. They may be employed in the recycling plant or in other industries.
GG Davis HIAB Transport
TEAM: Gavin Davis and Simon Elliot
MENTOR: Terry Sayer
The project focused on identifying opportunities for long-term expansion of an existing transport and storage business. The company has a range of different size crane and interstate trucks, and provides distribution and secure storage services throughout Australia.
ResMed
TEAM: P. Pham, R. Flower, D. Ramanan, A. Barlow and H. Manhy
MENTOR: Ross Harricks
ResMed is a global leader in medical products for respiratory disorders - with a focus on sleep-disordered breathing. The ResMed team developed a business plan on ways to drive ResMed's core business and product portfolio growth, through diversification of treatment therapies into other sleep disordered breathing segments.
Naturally Green
TEAM: M. Curran, D. Curran, J. Cooke and M. Roberts
MENTOR: Mark Baldassare
Naturally Green is a well-established landscaping business in Orange. The team examined the feasibility of a labour-saving bark and soil distribution business using a machine known as a bark blower. A new company named Ecoscape Solutions that started in August after completion of the business plan and has been growing steadily.
ResMed Plus
TEAM: B. Hunter, J. Liang, M. Spruell, S. Herbert and S. Cork
MENTOR: Peter Read
ResMed Plus offers ResMed CPAP customers a range of spares with a choice of personally appealing graphic designs. This is a captive market worth $80 million per year in the US for headgear replacements alone.
RQA Asia Pacific Pty Ltd - Product Recall Training
TEAM: Steve Hather and Sarah Alonso
MENTOR: Dympna Austin
RQA developed a business plan for establishing the RQA Product Risk Institute to deliver high quality training services on risk management. The RQA course will enable participants to manage product risk; respond effectively to product-related incidents; be better prepared for product recalls; and prevent crises.
Elizabeth Liddell Photography Project
TEAM: Elizabeth Liddell
MENTOR: Gillian Corban
Elizabeth Liddell Photography will be a premium, digital photographic business specialising in portraiture and wedding photography. It will combine passion for the unique character of each client; intuitive, preference for natural light and settings; and use of new technologies.
Moving Presentations
TEAM: Mark Gibson and Greg Knight
MENTOR: Jo-Anne Miley and Charles Lindop
Moving Presentations is a well established wedding cinematography business, examined ways to strengthen and grow its brand, and increase its market share at the higher end of the market, Australia wide.
Solar Electric Generating Systems (SEGS)
TEAM: Ravinder Soin
MENTOR: James Kirby
Supplying electric generating systems to residential and commercial customers to provide ‘clean’ electricity for home or business use. These systems can be connected to the grid to feed the surplus electricity to an energy retailer for a credit or for sale.
