Sydney company The Word has won Best Marketing Plan at the annual 2009 Enterprise Workshop Awards night. The Word an already established print media company targeting the backpacker market comprised of Mike Barrow and Chris Harrison. The winning teams were selected by an independent panel of senior business people.

Sydney company The Word has won Best Marketing Plan at the annual 2009 Enterprise Workshop Awards night. The Word an already established print media company targeting the backpacker market comprised of Mike Barrow and Chris Harrison. The winning teams were selected by an independent panel of senior business people.

The Word’s Chris Harrison said at the dinner, ““The NSW Enterprise Workshop is a practical means to fast track and focus a business for success. It has allowed our business have a clear strategy and focus for the years to come.”

The Word has been in the Backpacker advertising market since 1992 and has become the industry leader in that sector. The Word entered the NSW Enterprise Workshop to investigate new steams of revenue, successfully identifying areas of expansion including a new website and online booking system.

Head of judging Garry Dinnie said, “The Word have a great deal of growth ahead and their marketing plan demonstrates this. They have developed a succinct and concise document which will prove to be effective in the future.”

These plans can be used to support applications for development financing and to help manage the business into the future.
