Red Lizard Software Goes Global Launches Goanna Globally

(Information taken from a recent BRW Article)

2006 Enterprise Workshop team Red Lizard Software, a start-up company originating from NICTA, has announced that its Goanna testing and debugging software has been launched as part of Microsoft's recently released Visual Studio 2010 for Windows. Visual Studio 2010 is used to develop applications and games. Goanna extends the value of Visual Studio 2010 by finding mission-critical bugs, which reduces software development and debugging time, potentially saving millions of dollars.

James Campbell, CEO of Red Lizard Software said Goanna will give developers code confidence in delivering high quality software projects. At a global level, we'll help organisations to deliver better and more reliable products, from medical devices through to consumer electronics.

Autumn Program Projects

Mentors have been assigned and teams are now into business plan development. Brief outlines of the projects follow.

Electronic Lock Systems
Team Members: Jonathan Ladmore, David Abberton, Regan Russell, Craig Burke and Norm Axford
Mentor: Andrew Stead

This team will develop a plan for a business to design, install and maintain locking and access control systems using an electronic locking device that is cost effective and more convenient than conventional mechanical locks. The business is to target retail outlets that need to securely display high value products (e.g. jewellery or electronic devices) or high social risk products (e.g. spray paint cans or weapons) to potential customers. The Electronic Lock Systems device has the benefits of being able to be quickly and inexpensively updated if the access control device is lost compared to the cost replacing a mechanical lock if a key goes missing.

Enough Is Enough – Investing in the Future
Team members: Ken Marslew, Lynette Marslew, Julie Wade, Leonard Musumeci, Khaled El Sayed and Jane Randall
Mentor: Chris Smith

This team will investigate establishing a recycling plant business to recover reusable raw materials to produce plastics. The proceeds will be used to support a job preparedness program for the long-term unemployed and for rehabilitation of ex-prisoners. They may be employed in the recycling plant or in other industries.

Workshop Mentors

Brief career profiles of five of the many long-standing Enterprise Workshop mentors.

The major distinguishing feature of the Enterprise Workshop program is that it is mentor-based. A mentor is appointed to each project team to help team members work through the process of developing a business plan. Without the support of senior business people as mentors the Workshop would be much the same as any other business training course.

The Workshop is extremely grateful to its mentors for the time and energy they devote to the Workshop project teams in what is hopefully a mutually enjoyable, interesting and rewarding experience.

John Groarke has been a management consultant for over 30 years. His early IT-centred career concluded as Group Management Services Manager for an industrial group where he was responsible for information technology, organisation and methods, and operations research. After many years with IBM BCS, PwC Consulting and Grant Thornton he formed his own consulting firm in 2005 focussing on boardroom IT consulting, and developing sustainable professional services organisations. John is a Workshop presenter on services strategies and over the past three years he has been a review panellist, a mentor and a trial judge.

Robert Middendorp has worked in accounting and finance roles with companies such as NAB, ACI, Fluor, Pirelli Cables, FH Faulding and Repco. Following the 1987 share market crash he had interim CEO roles in turnaround situations in the automotive, commuter airline and boat building industries. In 1991, he joined James Hardie Industries and for ten years had both staff and profit centre positions. He was a key instigator of the methodologies and processes which led to James Hardie becoming a product leader in the building materials sector. Since leaving 2001, he has worked as a freelance facilitator assisting businesses with business strategy development, turnaround planning and plan implementation.

John Randall is a full-time mentor, consultant and independent director. He trained as a chartered accountant and he is a former CEO of The Hospitals Contribution Fund Ltd, and Ramsay Healthcare Ltd, which owns a number of private hospitals in Australia and overseas. John has run his own mentoring business since 1997. His clients have included software companies, a BMW dealership, dust emissions monitoring company, an accounting practice, a national physiotherapy services provider and the Coogee Bay Hotel. He is a director of Konekt Limited, a public company that provides health services to enable injured workers to return to work.

Ross Harricks has had an extensive career in international marketing of medical and industrial technology-based products. Senior positions he has held include: General Manager EMI Electronics Group, Group Marketing Executive of the Nucleus Group [which included Cochlear (bionic ear) and Ausonics (ultra sound)]; director of ResMed; cofounder and CEO of Atcor Medical (Australian cardiovascular technology); and a Director of VentraCor Limited (implantable heart-assist devices). Currently Ross Harricks & Co works with Australian equipment companies on commercialising their technology in the EU and US markets and on projects for EU and US medical companies in the Australian market.

James Kirby is Chairman and Chief Executive of Hungerford Hill Wines, a Hunter Valley icon and a champion of New South Wales winemaking. James had previously been a director and senior executive with the James N Kirby Group, the family-owned engineering and manufacturing business founded by his grandfather in 1924. The Kirby group was the leading Australian manufacturer of refrigeration and air conditioning components, and a leading manufacturer and exporter of machine tools and components for the automotive industry.
